Lead CAD designer on a three-person robotics competition team. Our dual-slider arm and passive depositor scored the round high of 106 points.
A Georgia Tech robotics competition project on a three-person team. As lead CAD designer, I turned early concepts into a working mechanical system that had to complete several tasks under strict constraints.
Design
- Introduced a dual-slider extension arm that significantly improved deployment reliability.
- Developed a passive elastic depositor that met strict size limits while maximizing task efficiency.
Process
- Built a House of Quality to connect requirements to engineering specs, plus function trees, morphological matrices, and evaluation matrices to drive decisions.
- Kept subsystems independent so tasks could run simultaneously.
Fabrication
- Used laser cutting, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping, balancing cost, weight, and function in material choices.
- Made the design modular for faster repairs and adjustments during testing.
Result
Scored our highest round at 106 points, competitive across the field.
